EVERYDAY MISSION
SESSION FIVE
How do I share the gospel? (Part 1)
Three things most often keep Jesus’ followers from sharing the gospel: It’s divisive, we’re nervous, and/or we doubt we have the common ground for such a conversation. But God often gives opportunities and "“open doors” to share the gospel in ordinary and simple ways.
Sometimes his open door is a simple as being open about our faith in normal/winsome ways, from “day one”; other times it’s praying for and with people. The “open door” often involves both listening well and responding well to people, and trusting God enough to answer questions honestly. Reframing "what “sharing the gospel” looks like can help us overcome obstacles, and prayerfully look for opportunities God gives us.

Reflect
What are some things that are important to you or some things you are passionate about? If you have a hard time answering, how would your family and friends answer this about you? And how can we build our affections for Jesus so it becomes even more evident in our words and lives?
Why is having a posture of “being curious” about people’s stories and their worldview so important in the mission?
Think back to when you were still exploring Christianity or maybe when you were challenged in your faith. What were some of the questions you had and who/ where did you go to with these questions? What did you find helpful or not so helpful? How can we learn from this?
Assignment
Are you aware of the open doors or opportunities to share your faith? Spend some time specifically praying for open doors. Try one of the four ways to share the gospel in everyday conversations. Or, maybe practice “pausing long enough” to see the opportunity in front of you.
