MISSIONAL COMMUNITY
or MICROCHURCH?

The Equipping Group’s Online Back-To-School Workshop 2023

What's the difference between a missional community and a microchurch?
Are they the same thing with two names, or are they distinct philosophies of ministry?
How is each more helpful than the other... and does it really matter!?

For a decade starting in the early 2000s, "missional communities" were perhaps the most unique expression of church's missional pursuit in North America. Then in the mid-2010s, a growing number of "microchurches" seemed to lead the cutting edge of missional church philosophy. Now, in recent years, both movements have gained prominence. From the outside, these two structures might look similar to each other; however, there are profound similarities and differences.

In The Equipping Group's free workshop, Ben Connelly will navigate these two concepts with Jeff Vanderstelt, Executive director of Saturate, planting pastor of Soma Tacoma, and early practitioner of missional communities, and Tomy Wilkerson, Executive Director of Tampa Underground, a network who has led in shaping microchurches across North America.

Invite fellow church leader friends (no matter which version of "MC" they resonate more with), come with questions, and be prepared to learn together as we compare, contrast, discuss, and perhaps even debate these two ministry philosophies. Let's see and celebrate the way Jesus is working in both to make disciples and see his gospel go forth!
